WOLVES 4 Blackburn Rovers 2

Blkbn115 George Elokobi ScoresWell, some revenge for being turned over 5 seasons ago, but Paul Ince’s return was marred by team unrest speculation in the following week.  An impressive performance from Wolves against a better class team, with George Elokobi netting the opener and the squad displaying their new squad numbers as a sort of pre-announcement. (details here)

A very impressive performance from the midfield, especially man-of-the-match Dave Jones and Karl Henry, while Kights probably upped his price yet again.

Wayne Hennessey proudly displayed the number one jersey.

More to come.

CLOSE SEASON 2008-9 INTERNATIONALS with Wolves players

Ireland 1 Serbia 1 24th May (from FAI Website) here http://www.fai.ie/matchday/ ANDY KEOGH’s FIRST GOAL IS THE EQUALISER

21:48 FULL-TIME: Republic of Ireland 1 - 1 Serbia
21:47 The goal came just in time to ensure that Giovanni Trapattoni did not start his reign with a loss. It was especially welcome because of that.
21:46 The goal and especially the flambuoyant nature of Keogh's strike brought the Irish bench to their feet. arco Tardelli - a World Cup winner - celebrated as if he had just won the Jules Rimet Cup !!!!!
21:45 It was Keogh's first goal for Ireland in his 6th International appearance.
21:44 Andy Keogh volleyed a brilliant equalising goal in the 90th minute. A throw from the right by Stephen Kelly was headed across goal by Daryl Murphy and Keogh crashed it to the net from 15 yards.
21:44 G....OOOOOOOO ....AAAAAAA ... L for Ireland in the 90th minute

Holland 0 Wales 2

This last match before Holland depart for the European Championship saw a very young Welsh side stand up to a very strong Dutch which included several players with more premiership experience than the entire Welsh team.  Wayne starred in goal, while Freddy was up front with Dave Edwards slotted in just behind him as the attacking midfielder.   Sam Vokes was on the bench but didn’t make the pitch.  Wayne again pulled off a string of fine saves - the Welsh FA match report is here    and says The Wolves giant showed why Premier League clubs are tracking his progress with a hat-trick of fine fingertip saves from long range.  Sneijder twice tested the young keeper, once with a quick free-kick, while Rafael van der Vaart forced a full-stretch save.
