Next Match - Tuesday - awayday to the Palace here Saturday 28th Feb - Pilgrims at Molineux Wolves 0 Plymouth Argyle 1 (Gallagher 1) "We were hopeless" said Mick in his post match interview. Really? No, not that good, and very nervous in spite of the crowd's help. Berra and Craddock conspired to give a goal away to a long throw, some head tennis, bad positioning, and a great overhead kick in the first 40 seconds. Once again Wayne was caught well off his line. Both centre halves clearly were still back in the dressing room. All that the Pilgrims then had to do (!) was sit back on their lead for 94 minutes! They defended strongly, but while we had a couple of good chances, especially Sylvan who was starved of support in the first half - no balls to feet - we only had three shots on goal and Larrieu wasn't really disturbed. Meanwhile, Beacon Radio - playing Wolves commentary as the Baggies had already finished - had a great guest - Matt Murray who did a terrific and very positive analysis match commentary. Welcome back Matt! Individuals. Mick - playing Keogh isn't working. He can't head the ball - he jumps way too early although it's pretty pointless hoofing high balls to him and although he can hold it up only showed that once. If he's got the ball in the box he's going to pass or take a touch rather than shoot. Sam really doesn't yet have the experience to start, but Chris Iwelumo made a big difference when he came on. Why a player who has only scored 3 (one less than Neill Collins!) is preferred to one who's 6th in the league charts only Mick can answer. Keogh's presence has coincided with the run of only one win in 12 league matches. Then of course he won't make changes when changes are clearly needed. Worst player though was the hero against Cardiff - Kyel Reid had no pace and his guile didn't seem to work either. Kights again went missing for long periods. Dave Edwards was active eager and very loose with his passing. Wardy tried as hard as ever and again made promising incursions. Berra had a poor game, looking lost at times, while Craddock, mainly at fault for the goal - misdirected header then wrong side of Gallagher, was otherwise solid. Do wish he wouldn't keep heading the ball up and straight to the opposition though. Kevin Foley was the only decent crosser of the ball (apart from one Kights fast low centre) and was as solid as ever. Iwelumo was able to get on the end of the high balls that had been tossed up to Andy and his flick ons provided better service to the other strikers. The set pieces (corners, free kicks) were all wasted and it looked as though they'd never practised them. Once again, while the players trudged off, only Sammy Vokes went to every stand to applaud the few remaining fans. Capt Karl had one terrific opportunity - great shot - and he worked as hard as ever but he's in danger of getting a Keith Andrews reception - the lack of movement means he frequently has to pass backwards. The silly boy, who hadn't really made his normal fierce tackle all match, got booked one day before the amnesty so now gets a two match suspension for 10 yellows. Perhaps we'll get Dave Jones back, after all the rumours around the place that his "injury" was sounding off about playing. Will it be him or Dave Edwards ahead of Nigel Quashie down at the Palace on Tuesday night? MoM Sylvan in spite of his miss. And thanks to the Blades beating the Blues, Forest doing a smash and grab at Reading, and Saints pegging Cardiff back, the table hasn't really changed much. Wolves 0 Plymouth Argyle 1 (Gallagher 1)

Wolverhampton 0-1 Plymouth. Sunday 22nd February Wolves 2 (Ebanks-Blake 11, Konstantopoulos OG 81) Cardiff City 2 (Chopra 31, Johnson 48) Sam Vokes and Wayne Hennessey got a great reception from the Cardiff crowd after the match but it was the other Welsh international in the Wolves side Dave Edwards who was man-of -the-match. After the first 20 minutes it was only Dave who was trying to get the ball to feet. Whenever the ball came high to him he would pull it down and put in a decent pass. One run also deserved another goal. Also very lively was Stephen Ward who, in chasing down the Cardiff players on the edge of their box, created the opportunity for the first goal which Keogh missed, but was horribly at fault for their equaliser from Chopra. SEB was lively, and worked really hard but again got little service apart from the goal. Keogh probably made more headers than he has also season, having one of his best games at Molineux, but still missed another sitter. Kyel Reid looked far more full of tricks than Matty Jarvis, but Jarvis had probably tired out Cardiff full back McCormack. Matt is useless when he comes to shooting though and really must pass the ball. Kights shone until Cardiff got on top then faded just sparking a couple of times after our equaliser. There was a magic interchange between him and Kevin Foley in the first 11 minutes though which ultimately led to SEB’s goal. Kevin was a bit muted but solid at the back and Wayne made a couple of good saves but had no chance with either goal (remember 19 clean sheets last season!). Christophe Berra looked very settled and will improved - he just needs a training session with Neill Collins on how to score! Craddock was solid but most of his defensive headers were up in the air and easily picked off. Karl Henry had another slightly better than average match but looked as though he had an eye on the yellow card amnesty on Sunday next. A big reunion match on and off the field (see WWFC report), but Mark Kennedy was booed LESS than he was when he played for Wolves. Jay got a chorus of "fat lazy ba**ard" when he limped off and Gabor Gyepes (I think the crowd had forgotten him) got the better of Kights - don't know why - he was a lot slower, though helped by the referee in tackles. The away fans had a few choruses of "2-1 to the sheepsha**ers" before being drowned out by the home crowd with "2-1 to the referee". Yet another hapless refereeing performance with pushes in the back allowed by Cardiff players all the time, with a linesman who couldn't concentrate on the game. Cardiff's second goal came after a clear push on capt Karl had gone unpunished. These two were balanced by the lino in front of the Cardiff fans in the Steve Bull lower who saw that the Cardiff goalie had clearly carried the ball over the line from Kyel's moon-shot, which was nearly as spectacular as Rob Edwards own-goal from the touchline three seasons ago. A fair result in the end, but Dave Jones probably thought they should have gone away with all three points. Meanwhile Moxey needs to start worrying about the reducing attendances. Goals : 2 2 Possession : 55% 45% Shots On Target : 7 3 Shots Off Target : 5 4 Corners : 9 5 Fouls : 17 9 Most Fouls : Keogh (3) Burke (3) Yellow Cards : 1 0 Red Cards : 0 0 Scorers : Ebanks-Blake 11 Konstantopoulos 81 (og) v Chopra 31 Johnson 48 Wolves 2 (Ebanks-Blake 11, Konstantopoulos OG 81) Cardiff City 2 (Chopra 31, Johnson 48) Mick McCarthy made three changes to his team with Dave Edwards, Jody Craddock and Andy Keogh coming in for Nigel Quashie, Richard Stearman and Sam Vokes respectively. The Cardiff team, managed by former Molineux boss Dave Jones, had ex-Wulfs Mark Kennedy, Jay Bothroyd and Gabor Gyepes in their starting line-up. And on the bench were fitness coach Alex Armstrong and former Molineux defender Sean Connolly who is now the Welsh side's physio. City kicked-off attacking the North Bank end but the first chance fell to Wolves with the woodwork denying them the lead.Keogh's pass left Matt Jarvis with a run on goal but Gyepes got a foot in to divert the ball for corner. Michael Kightly's flag-kick was only half cleared and when he regained possession his low cross found Keogh whose shot rolled against the inside of the far post and bounced behind Ebanks-Blake before being booted clear. Michael Chopra volleyed wide from the right-hand corner of the area with Cardiff's first attempt but Wolves maintained the pressure and took the lead with 11 minutes gone. Kennedy was penalised for a push on Kightly who worked a clever short free-kick with Kevin Foley and powered towards the Cardiff area before finding Jarvis. The winger lifted the ball into the six-yard box and Ebanks-Blake ran in to send a header past Konstantopoulos. Stephen Ward fired over the bar after he had exchanged passes with Jarvis and advanced to the edge of the box, and then Craddock was harshly penalised for a challenge on Bothroyd. Christophe Berra headed Ross McCormack's free-kick behind for a corner - taken by McCormack and cleared by Foley. In the 29th minute Wolves were within an ace of a second goal. Keogh slipped the ball through to Ebanks-Blake whose angled shot was pushed out by Konstantopoulos. Keogh ran in and looked a certain scorer but the Greek keeper somehow managed to deflect the ball over the bar. To compound the situation, within two minutes City drew level. Paul Parry ran in from the right along the by-line and he pulled the ball back for Michael Chopra who found the net from eight-yards with a low shot. A minute later Bothroyd limped off to be replaced by Chris Burke. Ebanks-Blake's out-muscled a pair of challenges before he found Jarvis whose shot from the 18-yard line was way too high. But Cardiff almost took the lead five minutes before the break when McCormack looked destined to convert Chopra's low cross until Wayne Hennessey managed to divert the ball away. Just before the break Konstantopoulos pawed away a Jarvis cross as Kightly looked set to capitalise.

Saturday 14th Burnley 1 (McCann 6) Wolves 0 Wolves slumped to another defeat leaving Reading the chance to overtake us. We were clearly second best, although created enough chances to win it, but Berra missed the best chance and several others went missing. Only a goal line clearance by Stears kept the score down. It was a miserable Lancashire afternoon for Wolves and their supporters as Burnley took the spoils thanks to an early goal from Chris McCann. But, the truth be told, the winning margin could have been a lot more emphatic had the home forwards not spurned a host of chances. There was just one change to the Wanderers starting line-up with Sam Vokes coming into the attack for Chris Iwelumo who was named as a substitute. Wolves kicked-off defending the end of Turf Moor that housed the travelling support and within 30 seconds home keeper Brian Jensen had to field a cross from Kevin Foley. The visitors made a bright start but after Karl Henry had seen his low 20-yard drive comfortably saved by Jensen, Burnley took a sixth minute lead through McCann who headed in at the far post after a cross from Wade Elliott. Elliott then gifted a chance to Matt Jarvis when he lost control just outside his own area but the winger's volley was too high to trouble Jensen. Michael Kightly cut in from the right and fired over the bar from 20-yards and then he took the first two corners of the game both of which were only cleared with a degree of difficulty by the home defence. Rhys Williams' foul on Sylvan Ebanks-Blake almost led to an equaliser. Everyone missed Kightly's curled free-kick and the ball was only a fraction wide of the far post with Jensen struggling to make up his ground. Wayne Hennessey made a double save from Steven Caldwell when he blocked the defender's header and then threw himself in front of the follow up shot. Wolves, after the early setback, had been pressing without really creating any clear cut chances. And they almost conceded a second goal with 31 minutes gone when Elliott's powerful header was around a foot too high after Robbie Blake had crossed from the left. A smart turn by Martin Paterson left Christophe Berra trailing but the new signing quickly got back to win the ball as the Burnley man prepared to shoot. In first-half stoppage time, after Foley's run from the halfway line, the ball broke to Nigel Quashie but Jensen was equal to the 20-yard drive that followed. Saturday 14th February Coventry 2 (Doyle 25, McKenzie 75) Wolves 1 (Vokes 72 SEB missed pen 94) Mick’s birthday spent at the Ricoh. Two Wolves players had a great start to the day - Darren Potter and Mickey Gray won for Sheffield Weds at United. Three changes from the home match - Christophe Berra of course came in for Craddock - at fault for Norwich’s third goal, Chris Iwelumo regained his place from Andy Keogh, ironically after two of Andy’s best matches for a long time, but guilty of a match-winning miss. Nigel Quashie returned for DJ to strengthen the midfield. Freddy E started on the bench for Coventry. Again defensive errors let Wolves down. Sylvan was pulled down in the last seconds of time, but couldn’t convert the penalty. Mick’s birthday spent at the Ricoh. Coventry City 2 (Doyle 25, McKenzie 75) Wolves 1 (Vokes 72) After Sam Vokes had cancelled out Michael Doyle's first-half tap in, Wolves looked good for at least a point at Coventry. But the Sky Blues quickly hit back to regain the advantage and to cap a miserable fiftieth birthday for boss Mick McCarthy, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's stoppage time penalty was saved by home keeper Keiren Westwood. There were three changes to the Wolves' starting line-up with Christophe Berra making his debut in place of Jody Craddock, Nigel Quashie came in for Dave Jones in midfield and Chris Iwelumo returned up front with Andy Keogh dropping down to the bench. City kicked-off attacking the end of the Ricoh Arena that housed over 4,500 Wolves' supporters and in the opening two minutes the home defence twice had to clear crosses from Matt Jarvis. Wayne Hennessey had to sprint yards from his area to clear as Clinton Morrison threatened and there was no room for error as Westwood and Jordan Henderson successfully dealt with Iwelumo's through ball as Michael Kightly homed in. David Bell's angled shot was deflected wide by Richard Stearman and Westwood just managed to knock the ball away from Ebanks-Blake as the striker burst through to the edge of the box. Interplay between Kightly and Iwelumo opened up a half chance for Ebanks-Blake but Stephen Wright just got there first to turn the ball over the line for a corner. The flag-kick was taken by Kightly but came to nothing as the referee had spotted an infringement. In the 25th minute Coventry took the lead when Morrison got goalside of Stearman and rolled his shot under Hennessey. The ball hit the base of the post but Doyle had the easiest of tasks in tapping the ball into the empty net. In the 15 minutes that followed neither side carved out a worthwhile opening and when a decent chance eventually came along Westwood knocked the ball away from the head of Iwelumo following Kevin Foley's centre. From Kightly's corner Berra charged in but the defender couldn't direct his header on target and the opportunity was gone. Just before the break Quashie and Henderson needed attention after a clash of heads. When Quashie returned to the field his head was swathed in bandages. Half-Time: Coventry 1 Wolves 0 James McPake's foul on Iwelumo led to a Wolves free-kick 25-yards out but Quashie's effort bounced clear off the defensive wall. Then Jarvis ran into the area and found Ebanks-Blake whose route to goal was blocked and when the ball fell to Iwelumo he too was crowded out. Quashie was just wide of the far post with a shot that wasn't that far in front of Iwelumo or Ebanks-Blake and then Stephen Ward was booked after tripping Danny Fox just a yard to the side of the Wolves area. Fox took the free-kick himself curling the ball high over the bar. Ebanks-Blake had another shot blocked after he had taken a pass from Kightly and when the ball broke to Iwelumo, Westwood made a fine diving save from the striker's close-range effort. Karl Henry was booked for dissent shortly before Vokes was sent on as a replacement for Iwelumo Quashie saw his low shot on the run deflected behind for an unproductive corner and after Wright had been booked for a foul on Jarvis, from Kightly's free-kick Westwood clung on to Vokes' nod down. But Vokes wasn't to be denied and he levelled matters in the 72nd minute with a far post header after a Kightly corner from the left. But the cheers from the visiting supporters soon died away as in the three minutes that followed City twice went close to scoring before, at the third attempt, they did regain the lead. Virtually seconds after the restart Henderson volleyed inches wide of the far post. Then Leon McKenzie got past Stearman only to lift the ball over the bar with the goal at his mercy. But the striker didn't make any mistake a minute later when he drilled a low shot into the corner of the net. Quashie hit a cross that went right through the City six-yard box with no-one able to get a touch, and when play switched ends Hennessey had to be at his best to turn away a 25-yard drive from Morrison. Dave Edwards and Kyel Reid were late introductions for Wolves, in place of Henry and Kightly respectively. And Reid's first piece of the action was to win a corner. It was taken by Jarvis but Stearman headed wide. In the last of the four minutes of stoppage time Wolves were awarded a penalty after Ebanks-Blake was fouled by Ben Turner. But there was to be no reprieve for Wanderers as Ebanks-Blake hit the ball virtually straight at Westwood from the spot. Coventry: Westwood, Wright, Fox, Beuzelin, Doyle, McKenzie (Eastwood 77), Henderson, Morrison (capt) (Best 88), Turner, McPake, Bell. Unused subs: Marshall, Hall, Sawyer. Tuesday 3rd February Wolves 3 (Ebanks-Blake 25, 54, 56) Norwich City 3 (Croft 32, Cort 47, Doherty 65) A dejected Sylvan Ebanks-Blake stood in the centre circle with head in his hand after returning Club Captain Jody Craddock gifted Norwich their third goal to equalise Sylvan's first League hat trick. Woeful defending gifted the Budgies all three goals - after SEB had put us one up, Stears gave a soft back header which Lee-Croft pounced on to pass the ball into the net past Wayne. Then our defence had stayed in the dressing room as Carl Cort shot from all of 25 yards. And he scored, probably playing his best game at Molineux. He won most of the headers against our static defence. Amazing. Kevin Foley again looked out of sorts, Stears was puffing for the last 10 minutes, Jody put his head in bravely a few times but went AWOL for their third goal, while Stephen Hunt seemed to be, along with SEB, the only one wanting to fight at all times. Karl Henry had another iffy night, while Dave Jones spent a lot of time defending and yielding territory to the Canaries. Another ex-Wolf, Sammy Cllingan, in contrast, did a very good job playmaking. Kights made some good runs and passes, as did Matt Jarvis - but he's got to stop his wild shooting and give the ball to the goal scorers. Kights was sandwiched and aggravated his arm injury, to be replaced, fortunately by Sam Vokes - and we looked a much more positive side. SEB's three were all "Poacher's", with assists from Jarvis, who also had two shots well saved. Andy Keough played very well - best for a while - but missed a really decent chance for the winner by refusing to shoot. He was substituted shortly afterwards to a mixed reaction from the crowd. Overall Norwich were a very poor side at the back, and we should have had a hatful, but we were just as bad in defence, and their attack looked more likely to score. SEB had also hit the bar, so he's the exception. Still top - but a definite wobble now. Wolves 3 (Ebanks-Blake 25, 54, 56) Norwich City 3 (Croft 32, Cort 47, Doherty 65) Sylvan Ebanks-Blake notched a hat-trick but Wolves twice squandered the lead against a lively Norwich City side and in the end had to be content with a point from a 3-3 draw on a bitterly cold night at Molineux. There was just one change to the Wolves team with Matt Jarvis starting on the left-wing in preference to Kyel Reid who was named as a substitute. Mick McCarthy decided against blooding new signing Christophe Berra. Included in the Norwich team were Sammy Clingan, who came through the youth academy at Wolves, and one time Molineux striker Carl Cort. Alan Gow, who almost moved to Wolves from Glasgow Rangers, was a substitute for The Canaries after he signed for them on loan before the transfer deadline. Before kick-off a minute's silence was held to mark the passing of former Aston Villa and Wolves midfielder Paul Birch who had died at the age of 46. Wolves kicked-off attacking the South Bank end but it was Norwich that made most of the early attacks although their early efforts failed to produce any worthwhile attempts on goal. Karl Henry's challenge on Darel Russell resulted in a somewhat harsh yellow card for the home skipper and then Ebanks-Blake got in the first on target effort of the game with a low shot from 25-yards that went straight to David Marshall. Dave Jones took the first corner of the game but Marshall plucked the ball out of the air without a challenge. But the keeper was saved by the woodwork in the 21st minute when Michael Kightly's cross fell to Ebanks-Blake who thundered a shot against the bar. The rebound dropped to Jarvis who fired over as a defender closed him down. Just four minutes later Wolves took the lead. Marshall was distracted by Ebanks-Blake as the pair went for Kightly's centre. The keeper fumbled the ball which span to Jarvis and when he hit a low cross into the goalmouth Ebanks-Blake converted from close range. Wayne Hennessey saved well when he cut out Jamie Cureton's low shot from the edge of the area but the Wolves keeper was beaten in the 32nd minute when he was rounded by Lee Croft who fired into an empty net after Richard Stearman's header back fell short of the mark. To add to Wolves' worries Kightly injured a shoulder and although he tried to carry on he was forced to admit defeat and was replaced by Sam Vokes. Two minutes before the break Marshall's double save denied Wolves the lead. First he beat away a powerful effort from Ebanks-Blake and after Kevin Foley returned the ball into the six-yard box he pawed away Jarvis's point-blank header. In stoppage time Marshall saved an angled effort from Jarvis whilst Cort headed a Croft centre wide at the other end. Half-Time; Wolves 1 Norwich 1 Just two minutes after the restart Cort marked his Molineux return by giving City the lead as he stroked a shot from 20-yards into the corner of the net. It could have been worse shortly afterwards as Cureton miskicked right in front of goal as e tried to convert David Carney's cross. Jon Otsemobor fired into Hennessey's arms and seconds later, after play had swung to the other end, Jarvis's shot was blocked by Gary Doherty. Wolves drew level in the 54th minutes when Jarvis's driven cross hit a defender and ran to Ebanks-Blake who rammed home a low shot. In the three minutes that followed before Ebanks-Blake completed his hat-trick he had a shot blocked by Doherty and Croft was booked for a late challenge on Stephen Ward. But the striker completed the first treble of his senior career following a great piece of work from Jarvis who won possession from Russell and ran into the box before crossing low for Ebanks-Blake to blast the ball home through a congested goalmouth. Cureton missed another golden opportunity for Norwich when he headed Adam Drury's cross wide with just Hennessey to beat. But the reprieve proved to be a brief one as Doherty bundled home Clingan's corner in the 65th minute to tie the scores again. Vokes hit the side netting from a narrow angle as Wolves went in search of a winner in the closing stages although City were looking dangerous on the break. In stoppage time Ward and Vokes got in headers to help on Reid's cross but when Ebanks-Blake thumped his shot goalwards a defender blocked the ball.
